Slow Burn
One of my poems from the series "Madison Street" -- Slow Burn -- has been published in the latest issue of The Lyric.
Thank you, Jean!
Slow Burn
The children miss their favorite swimming hole
up at the creek, now autumn’s settled in.
This afternoon, one of Glen Alden’s trucks
has brought a mix of pea and chestnut coal.
They’ll chute it down into our cellar bin—
four tons, just over eighty-seven bucks.
We all watch as the monster dump-box lifts
and tilts. The blue-black slow-burn payload shifts
then rumbles to the dank, dark space below.
Our radiators, working full-time till
next March, will clank and gurgle, dry the snow
from woolen mittens, intercept the chill
creeping into the house as blizzards blow
pale spoondrift down our street from Beaumont hill.

Two Poems in Measure
Two of my poems appear in the current issue (Volume XII, Issue 1) of Measure (University of Evansville, Department of Creative Writing):
"We"-- a sonnenizio based on the first line of Timothy Murphy's Nemerov Award-winning sonnet, "The Track of the Storm" (the word "we" is repeated in every line, often hidden within other words); and "Family at Sunset Beach, California," finalist for the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award.
Thank you, Rob Griffith and Paul Bone.

Good News!
New Year's celebration, Punta del Este, Uruguay |
I've just heard from William Baer that my sonnet, "Celebration," which portrays my feeling of alienation at the New Year's celebrations in Punta del Este, has been chosen as one of twelve finalists for this year's Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award.
It will be published in an upcoming issue of Measure.
Thank you, Bill, Rob and Paul!
